Tour Description

Follow our expert guide on this 5-hour tour of the City of Mosaics and its most iconic landmarks!

Ravenna has been a capital three times: of the Western Roman Empire, of the Byzantine Roman Empire and of the Kingdom of the Goths. You will learn about how the art and architecture of the city were influenced by these three kingdoms, creating a unique blend of styles.

You will admire many stunning mosaics and visit the Mausoleum of Galla Placidia and the Basilica of Sant’Apollinare, both UNESCO World Heritage sites. Enjoy the interesting descriptions and unique insights of your guide about some of the landmarks of the city, including the Mausoleum of Theodoric, the Basilica of San Vitale and the Archiepiscopal Chapel.

Our tour also includes a treat for literature enthusiasts: the “Zone of Silence”. This area is dedicated to the memory of the great Italian poet Dante Alighieri, who moved to Ravenna after being exiled from Florence. You will view his tomb, together with the Franciscan cloister and the Church of St. Francis, where his funerals took place in 1321.

Wear comfortable shoes and get your camera ready: come and explore one of the most beautiful cities in Italy!
