Full Description
In 1944 the Allied advance on Rome passed through two places that still define the Italian campaign: Montecassino, the hilltop abbey, and the beaches and towns of the Anzio beachhead. On this private full-day tour from Rome, we follow that story in a single day, with a guide who connects the abbey, the war cemeteries, a World War II museum, and the ground where the landing took place.
We travel by private minivan, and pickup is included from the hotel, the port, the airport, or the train station. The itinerary moves at a comfortable pace: Montecassino in the morning, with the abbey, the war cemetery, and the old town below it; the Piana delle Orme World War II Museum at the center of the day, where the campaign is told through vehicles, dioramas, and period objects; then Nettuno and the Anzio War Cemetery in the afternoon.
This is a private tour, so the guide adapts the pace and the time spent at each stop to the interests of the group, whether that means more time among the graves and the memorials or a longer look inside the museum. Entrance tickets, transportation, and the guide service are all included in the price. Food and drinks are not included, but the guide knows the area well and is glad to suggest a good place to stop for a meal along the route.
